Workshop with Seung Kwan Lee

Floor to Flow

[EN]

This class is structured with 4 sections: Warm-up, Floor Work, Improvisation, and Choreography.

The goal of the session is to experience diverse approaches to training the body and to create different entrances into movement.

Through the Warm-up section, we will train the strength and mobility of the body — preventing injury, acknowledging body capacities, and activating muscles. It will go through checking the range of movement while engaging muscles and staying mobile in difficult shapes or positions of the body.

After that, the Floor Work section will begin, which is structured with 2 parts: locomotion & stationary. With locomotion, we will discover how to travel through sliding, crawling, rolling, etc. With stationary, we will discover how to turn, make loop movements, and transition between movements. Through these, we will learn how to be in contact with the

floor in a comfortable and relaxed body state, and how to be solid and stable.

Then the Improvisation part will follow. In this section, we will focus on body awareness: where our body parts are placed in space, how many layers of conscious movement can happen at the same time, where we get the impulse to begin a movement, and how movements can have dynamics. Lastly, in the Choreography section, we will learn choreography that combines urban and contemporary material, incorporating what we've

done in the previous sections.

BIO:

Seung Hwan Lee is a South Korean choreographer, dancer, and web developer based in Mannheim, Germany. His work moves between contemporary choreography and conceptual rigor, exploring how instinct, identity, and silence survive inside constructed systems. Recurring themes of survival, identity displacement, and cultural alienation are staged with spare means and a precise attention to space and silence.

He holds a BA from the Korea National University of Arts (K-ARTS), Seoul, and was awarded 1st Prize & Audience Award for Best Dance Solo at the Euro-Scene Competition in Leipzig, as well as 2nd Prize at the Netherlands Choreography Competition, both for his solo Unpaved Road. His recent choreographic works include Liminal Threshold(2026), Colonialism: The Weight of Sound (2025), and Masturpiece: Major Tom (2025), presented at venues including Theater Felina Mannheim, Platform 14 Berlin, and the Hundertpro Festival.

As a dancer, he has worked with companies and artists such as Norrdans (Sweden), La_Trottier Dance Company, and Gerhart Hauptmann-Theater Görlitz-Zittau, and has held residencies at Lake Studios Berlin, LAB Mannheim, and the Heidelberg Choreographisches Centrum.

Floor to Flow
